Harb: March 14 decides government must resign

NNA - Deputy Boutros Harb said March 14 decided that the present government must resign in order to form another one prone to solve the problems facing the country.

Harb's words came Monday in the wake of a meeting for March 14 parliamentary commission chairpersons at his residence in Hazmieh.

Harb said the new government must be formed via the process governed by the Constitution, adding that any resort to the national dialogue to discuss cabinet's resignation would violate the Constitution.

"March 14 aims to safeguard Lebanon and activate constitutional institutions, especially the House of Parliament, which must approve on a new electoral law," said Harb, who added that elections must take place on their due date.

The attendees of the meeting decided to continue negotiations with House Speaker Nabih Berri, for the purpose of putting a view regarding facilitating the path for approving a new election law.

Harb affirmed March 14's rejection for 1960 law that was modified in 2008. He explained that March 14 wanted a new election law that would give way to citizens to choose their representatives in the authority.

Thereupon, the attendees decided to resume their participation in the meetings of the parliamentary sub-commission, which is tasked to study an election law for upcoming parliamentary elections.
