Turkish Interior Minister: About 100 people were evacuated in wake of a cable car crash in Antalya

NNA - Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Saturday morning that rescuers were able to evacuate 98 out of 160 people trapped in cable cars following a cable car crash that occurred yesterday, Friday, according to "Russia Today".

The minister wrote on the “X” platform: “As of 7:15 a.m. today, rescuers have evacuated 98 people from 15 stuck vehicles.”

He added that the rescue operation involved 7 helicopters, one transport plane and 543 people.

One person was killed and 10 others were injured yesterday, Friday, after a cable car collided with a pole in southern Turkey, causing the cable car to collapse and the passengers to fall to the side of a mountain. Anadolu Agency said that the victim was a 54-year-old Turkish man, and that the other victims were also Turkish, with the exception of one who had Kyrgyz citizenship.

For his part, Antalya Mayor Muhittin Böcek added in a statement yesterday, Friday, that about 184 other passengers remained trapped in 25 other cable cars at a height of dozens of meters above the ground.
