Energy Minister partakes in World Energy Forum in Rotterdam, underscores Lebanon's commitment to renewable energy

NNA – Caretaker Minister of Energy and Water, Walid Fayad, took part in the 26th World Energy Forum in Rotterdam, which is organized by the World Energy Council. This event drew over 3,500 participants, including government officials and industry leaders.

Minister Fayad delivered a keynote speech focusing on renewable energy in the Middle East and the Gulf region. He underscored Lebanon's commitment to renewable energy, noting that it accounts for about a quarter of the country's total energy demand. He also highlighted the positive impacts of Lebanon's decision to lift subsidies on fuel and electricity tariffs, leading to a 35% decrease in energy demand and making solar energy the cheapest option in Lebanon.

Moreover, Minister Fayad stressed the importance of regional and international partnerships to develop sustainable energy solutions, particularly in securing financing for major projects. He expressed optimism about Lebanon's green hydrogen market, especially in the industrial sector, with the first projects expected to launch soon.

During the forum, Minister Fayad held bilateral meetings with counterparts and industry leaders, including Dr. Mike Howard, President of the World Energy Council. He also conducted numerous interviews with international television stations.

Minister Fayad led the Lebanese delegation to the forum, which included representatives from private sector companies in Lebanon's energy sector.
