Lebanon's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses regret over UN Security Council's failure to act on Palestinian statehood

NNA - The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants on Friday expressed its regret in a statement "for the lack of consensus among the members of the United Nations Security Council to seize this historic opportunity to accept full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations, after more than 75 years have passed since the issuance of UN General Assembly Resolution 181 calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and the non-implementation of Security Council Resolution 242.”

“The time has come for the international community to translate its words into actions by accepting the two-state solution and recognizing Palestine as a fully-fledged member," Lebanon’s MoFA said in its statement, affirming "that the implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions regarding the Palestinian issue opens the door to sustainable peace and security in the Middle East, and to living with dignity and tranquility, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative adopted by Arab countries at the 2002 Beirut Summit."
