Polls close in Sidon, participation rate reaches 45%

NNA – Sidon - The electoral process in Sidon ended at seven in the evening, as polls closed and the counting of votes began.

The large electoral centers witnessed a remarkable turnout, as crowds gathered in polling stations before the last minutes of polls’ closing, with the participation rate reaching about 45 percent, in comparison to a 58 percent in the 2018 elections.

The long election day proceeded smoothly and calmly in the 16 polling stations, with only a few minor problems as the LADE Association for Election Monitoring observed a number of violations, the most prominent of which was ballot lists’ representatives’ escorting of voters beyond the barrier with pretexts of helping them, while chaos was witnessed in some centers due to lack of supplies and power outage.

It is to note that the number of voters in Sidon is 68 thousand, out of which 45% percent or around 30,600 thousand voters cast their votes today.

The counting of votes in the Jezzine area will help determine the expected outcome within the constituency.
