NNA - Norwegian Ambassador to Lebanon, Martin Yttervik, alongside Head of Health Services at the Central Management Unit, Colonel Henri Mansour, on Monday visited Barbir Al Khazen Women's Prison in Beirut.

The pair was accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission at the Norwegian Embassy, a delegation from the World Health Organization, and other senior officials.

During the visit, the delegation toured the prison facilities, where they were briefed on projects and activities supported by the World Health Organization and funded by the Norwegian Embassy in Lebanon. Additionally, they visited the prison's medical clinic and conducted interviews with inmates.

Ambassador Yttervik remarked, "We previously visited Roumieh Prison and witnessed the care and dialogue between the administration and the inmates. Regardless of their actions, they deserve healthcare."

A representative from the World Health Organization reaffirmed the organization's support for enhancing healthcare systems in prisons, emphasizing close cooperation with the Internal Security Forces and other partners within a joint action plan.

The organization's support includes comprehensive health assessments, medical record digitization, provision of medical equipment, as well as the promotion of preventive measures and health education, especially concerning chronic diseases, in central prisons and women's prisons.

Colonel Mansour emphasized the commitment of the Internal Security Forces to improving healthcare in prisons and expressed gratitude to the Norwegian Embassy and the World Health Organization for their support.
