NNA - Nicaragua has followed Mexico in severing diplomatic relations with Ecuador after Quito's police stormed the Mexican embassy in Ecuador Friday and forcibly removed former Ecuadorian vice-president Jorge Glas.

Glas was released from prison in November after serving time for diverting millions of dollars of funds intended for earthquake reconstruction in 2016, and had been granted asylum by Mexico last week.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador had compared Mexico's rising crime to Ecuador's 2023 election violence, which sparked election winner Daniel Noboa to expel Mexico's ambassador. --- RT
