Four dead in an earthquake in Papua, Indonesia

NNA - At least four people were killed today after an earthquake struck the capital of the Indonesian province of Papua, which led to the collapse of a beachside cafe, according to "Agence France Presse".

People felt the 5.1-magnitude earthquake at around 13:28 local time (06:28 GMT) and its epicenter was located in the south of the capital, Jayapura, at a depth of 22 km, according to the US Geological Survey.

"A cafe collapsed, killing four people," said Asip Khalid, head of the Jayapura Disaster Management Agency.

Jayapura residents fled homes and shops after the tremor.

Indonesia experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where tectonic plates collide.
