NNA - Today, the donation of the last tranche of the 2022 Italian Defense support to the LAF Personnel Transportation Plan took place during a ceremony held at the Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL) headquarters in Karantina in the presence of the Italian Ambassador Nicoletta BOMBARDIERE, the representative of the LAF Commander, B. Gen. Nemer Abi Nassif, and the Head of Logistics Brigade, B. Gen. Johnny Akel.

The donation consists of buses among which 5 Heavy Buses, 5 Medium Buses and 3 Vans. Through the Bilateral Agreement on Defense, benchmark for the Security Cooperation between the two countries, the Italian Government is continuing to support the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in training and capability development. 

Logistics plays a key role in the military organisation and capabilities development in its most comprehensive sense. For the year 2023, the Italian Government is planning to provide donations of material, equipment and vehicles for about 8 million euros in accordance with LAF needs, considering that in 2022, the Italian Authority donations in support of the LAF, in terms of materials, reached about 2.1 million euros. 

Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL)

During the 2022, the MIBIL provided 51 courses to the LAF, training 1133 staff. The establishment and construction of the MIBIL HQ in Karantina bears witness to the planned long-term support of Italy to the Lebanese Armed Forces in achieving security and stability for the benefit of Lebanon and Lebanese citizens.
