NNA - Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani, slammed on Monday projects aiming to legalize civil marriage, warning all the Muslim officials in power to be considered "apostates of Islam" if they support the legalization of such marriage in Lebanon.

The Mufti's words came during a meeting at Dar al-Fatwa today, in the presence of Sunni Sheikhs and scholars.

"Let it be known to all those who lurk and try to plant the 'germ' of civil marriage in Lebanon (...) that they will fail if God wills," the Mufti promised.
