UNHCR helping out 269308 refugees

NNA - Steady inflow of displaced Syrians into Lebanon continued unabated with a rate of 2000 arrivals per day, the UNHCR confirmed in its weekly report. The International Commission put the actual number of displaced at a total of 265308 with about 90000 awaiting registration with the organization's organs.


The report cited cases of physical and sexual violence meted to women and urged victims to report them in order to get proper protection. The report also acknowledged difficulties in areas of caring for children with special needs and issuing of birth certificates to the new-born. The commission report cited its success in reaching out for the displaced living around Ersal despite the clash between villagers and the Lebanese military.


The report also credited UNICEF and Danish -associated NGOs for their primary and secondary educational effort and cited the figure of 2044 patients benefiting from International Commission medical attention and hospitalization. It cited unaffordable high rents standing at a monthly rate of $U.S.200-300 with Commission and Danish organizations striving to the best of their capacity to extend a helping hand.
