Zahraman dents hopes of consensual electoral plan

NNA - Member of Parliament, Khaled Zahraman, said on Thursday that reaching a consensual electoral law was farfetched, confirming, however, the Future Parliamentary bloc's participation in the forthcoming round of sessions by the Parliamentary subcommittee tasked to reach agreement over a new election law.

Interviewed by "Al-Fajr" radio station, the Future Bloc MP hailed former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's initiative, but refused to give more details about it.

"I hope Hariri's initiative establishes a starting point to seriously reach a consensual electoral formula," said Zahraman.

Moreover, the MP said that holding legislative elections at their set date was a must. He deemed objection being made against the possibility of holding elections -- based on the 1960's electoral law -- an indirect threat to stall elections.

He also reiterated his bloc's utter refusal of the Orthodox Gathering's electoral plan, fearing it would strike the country's unique formula of coexistence.
