NNA - The secretary of Change and Reform parliamentary bloc, Ibrahim Kenaan, confirmed Sunday his refusal to compromise on the electoral law proposed by the Orthodox Meeting.
"If a unanimous decision is taken by the Christian parties, under the aegis of Bkirky, and this decision is approved by a majority of 6 votes an 8-in sub-committee, couldn't someone take this into account? " asked the member in a statement.
"Is there a strategic decision on the continued marginalization of Christians?" he added.
"We would like, for once, to break this vicious cycle. [Those who reject Orthodox plan] justified [their] behavior in the past by the presence of the Syrian tutelage. This guardianship ended, and the marginalization of the Christian vote has continued, which undermines true partnership."
"Christians pay a high price for the implementation of the Taef Accord. Forces always want to monopolize the representation of Christians in Parliament. Future has not submitted a proposed electoral law since 1990, but continues to refuse [Orthodox plan] refuses. This fact means that the true partnership [is jeopardized]. This is a wrong decision that threatens national partnership. We categorically reject it," he concluded.
