Alain Aoun: Country's bound for open crisis

NNA - The country is bound for an open crisis in the event of not reaching a new electoral law, leading Aounist deputy of the House Alain Aoun warned today.

The deputy and, in an interview on a Voice of Lebanon radio station talk show, indicated that the ad-hoc committee for proposing a new electoral law filed its final report to the Joint sub-parliament commission. He disclosed that the commission recommended the so-called Greek-Orthodox law despite its failure to secure outright parliamentarian consensus.

Aoun accused pro-Hariri MPs Fatfat and Torsarkissian of blocking the Orthodox law by resorting to political outbidding and blackmail as he said. While defending the Orthodox law on account of what he termed as the consent of all 3 principal Christian leaders, Aoun added that the so-called "Sixty Code" won't pass.

He wished to see the Constitutional Council coax both president Sleiman and Jumblatt into accepting the said law. Aoun rejected any linkage between disarming Hizbullah and Christian representation on account of risking likely victimization by conflicting versions of an unaltered actual electoral law.
