(UPDATED) Ghanem hands Berri minutes on elections law committee

NNA - Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, was handed by Deputy Robert Ghanem minutes on the parliamentary election law committee's meeting that took place today Tuesday at the House of Parliament.

MP Robert Ghanem had said the sub-committee, tasked with studying the electoral law, would resume its session this evening at 5:00 p.m. to pursue discussions.

"Talks shall be resumed on the methodology of the sub-committee's previous minutes to come up to a joint vision on the electoral law," he remarked.

In the wake of his meeting with Berri, Ghanem said he discussed with the Speaker the procedures of the election sub-committee's work, assuring that the Speaker is open to any decision made by the committee. Ghanem assured that the committee would hopefully agree on a law project that would not be 100% fair but acceptable by all political sides, so that "not any side feels that the law is unfair to it [political side]."

Berri also met at his residence in Ain Tineh Deputy Marwan Ghanem, who stressed that any electoral law project that would, if adopted, clearly reveal in advance the election winners, would fail to be adopted.

Berri also received Sports and Youth Minister, Faysal Karami, and reviewed with him overall developments at the local and regional scenes as well as the electoral law issue.
