NNA - The House of Parliament on Thursday convened a general legislative session chaired by House Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss two urgent and repeated draft laws:

1. A proposal to extend the term of current municipal and mayoral councils until May 31, 2025, presented by MP Jihad Al-Samad.

2. A proposal to specify the law applicable to confirmed volunteers in the civil defense according to the provisions of Law No. 289 of 2014 and Law No. 59 of 2017, presented by MPs Jihad Al-Samad, Ali Hassan Khalil, Ibrahim Kanaan, Amin Cherri, Tony Frangieh, and Hassan Murad.

Both proposals were approved by the majority of attending MPs.

The session commenced at 11:00 am in the presence of Prime Minister Najib Mikati, ministers, and MPs. Speaker Berri requested a minute of silence in memory of the late former MP Fouad Saad.

The Parliament then approved the extension of municipal and mayoral councils and the law applicable to confirmed volunteers in the civil defense.
