NNA - China said on Friday that it opposes "blindly imposing sanctions" on North Korea after Beijing abstained from voting on a draft resolution in the United Nations Security Council, in which Russia blocked the renewal of the mandate of a committee of experts charged with monitoring the implementation of sanctions on Pyongyang, according to Agence France-Presse.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said, "The current situation on the (Korean) peninsula is still tense, and blindly imposing sanctions cannot solve the problem."
