NNA - Jordanian King Abdullah II stressed the need to stop the Israeli war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, warning of the danger of attacks on holy sites in the city of Jerusalem, according to "Wafa" news agency.
This came during his reception in the capital Amman, today, Sunday, of the Secretary of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, as part of an official visit that the latter is making to the Kingdom, according to a statement by the Royal Court.
The statement indicated that the emphasis was on "the need to stop the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and enhance the humanitarian response."
The Jordanian King appreciated "the Pope's supportive stance to end the suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip," and warned of "the danger of continued Israeli attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem."
Cardinal Parolin expressed his appreciation to King Abdullah for his support and care for the Christian presence in Jordan.
Parolin had attended the inauguration of the Church of the Baptism of Jesus Christ for the Latins in al-Maghtas, on Friday, which was built on a plot of land that King Abdullah asked to be allocated for this purpose.
