NNA - Islamic Cooperation Organization's Secretary-General, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, called on member states, international and non-governmental organizations to “intensify efforts to shed light on the conditions of children, especially children of the displaced, of refugees and of those under occupation or without parental care.”

The Secretary-General also urged member states and the international community to "exert more efforts to achieve equity and commitment to children's rights, raise awareness about their issues, and work to provide them with care and protection."

His call came within the framework of activities marking the International Children's Day on the twentieth of November every year since 1954, with the aim of strengthening international cooperation, raising awareness about children's rights and improving their well-being around the world, and supporting basic priorities to preserve their rights.

It is worth noting that the Ministerial Conference on Social Development, which was held in December 2019 in the Republic of Turkey, called on member states to convene an open-ended group of governmental experts to discuss the draft "OIC Convention on the Rights of the Child", in preparation for presenting it to the Second Ministerial Conference on Social Development which will be hosted by the Republic of Egypt.

In this connection, the General Secretariat held the first meeting of the expert group in February 2022 at its headquarters, in coordination with the Independent Permanent Commission for Human Rights, and is preparing to hold the second meeting of the expert group on November 29-30, 2022 to continue discussing the document.
