Pedersen meets Miqdad in Damascus: The meeting was very good

NNA - UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen discussed with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad in Damascus today a number of issues related to the settlement of the Syrian crisis.

Pedersen said in statements to the Syrian newspaper, Al-Watan: "The meeting was very good, as we discussed the files related to UN Resolution 2254, and then we spent some time discussing the economic and social challenges that the Syrian people suffer from, as well as the file of internally displaced persons and refugees."

The UN envoy stated that he had heard in detail about the recent amnesty decree issued by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, adding: "I look forward to being informed of the mechanism of its implementation, and as I said earlier, this amnesty may have good repercussions and we will see how it can develop."

Pedersen indicated that the talks also dealt with the Constitution Drafting Committee, saying: "As you know, we will have a meeting in Geneva on the 28th of this month, where the three delegations will participate, and I hope that the meeting will be good and through which we can progress and work to build confidence and implement Resolution 2254."
