New dust storm hits Iraq, suspending flights


NNA - Iraq is currently under a dust storm which is the sixth in a month, resulting in the closure of Baghdad and Najaf international airports, in an increasingly recurring phenomenon, according to AFP. 

Clouds of yellow dust covered most of southern Iraq, including the capital, Baghdad, and is expected to continue until Monday, according to the Meteorological Department.

"Flights to Baghdad and Najaf airports have been suspended due to the dust storm," said Jihad Al-Diwan, director of relations at the Civil Aviation Authority. He added, "The movement of incoming and outgoing planes will return to normal if the weather conditions improve."
