93 injured in riots on the Esplanade of the Mosques in Israel

NNA -

At least 90 Palestinian worshipers and three Israeli policemen were injured today during clashes on the Esplanade of the Mosques in occupied East Jerusalem, coinciding with the second Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and in a context of growing tension in the area.

Witnesses at the scene spoke of him Palestinians throwing stones at Israeli security forces and firing rubber bullets at some protesters.

The Esplanade of the Mosques is the third holy place of Islam and is located in the Old City of East Jerusalem, a Palestinian sector of the city occupied since 1967 by Israel and a regular scene of clashes between Jewish police and Muslim protesters.

Last year, during the month of Ramadan as on this occasion, there were nightly demonstrations in Jerusalem and riots on the Temple Mount that triggered an eleven-day war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in power in the Gaza Strip. --- Pledge Times
