NNA - Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, on Monday arrived in the Qatari capital Doha to begin an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. He commenced his meetings with Qatar’s Minister of Transport, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani.

During their talks, both ministers discussed ways to deepen collaboration across key infrastructure and transportation sectors. Minister Rasamny expressed Lebanon’s profound appreciation to the State of Qatar, its Emir, government, and people, for the generous grant previously announced to support Lebanon’s critical infrastructure.

“This initiative reflects the enduring fraternal ties between our two nations and Qatar’s steadfast commitment to assisting Lebanon amid its ongoing challenges,” Rasamny said.

The Qatari grant includes:

    •    A state-of-the-art package of communication systems and air navigation equipment for Rafic Hariri International Airport, aimed at enhancing flight safety and upgrading navigation infrastructure.

    •    A fleet of public transport buses, supporting the ministry’s plan to modernize Lebanon’s public transit fleet and ease pressure on both air and ground transport networks.

The initiative follows productive meetings held in April in Doha during Rasamny’s participation in the ICAO Air Transport Facilitation Conference.

“The Qatari grant is a strategic milestone in upgrading Beirut airport operations and revitalizing Lebanon’s public transport sector,” Rasamny said, adding that it exemplifies Qatar’s consistent support for Lebanon at critical junctures.

It is worth mentioning that the Qatari Embassy in Beirut, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, will oversee the logistical process to ensure the swift deployment and operationalization of the equipment.
