NNA - President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, received an Easter-congratulatory telegram, from his Syrian counterpart, President Dr. Bashar al-Assad.

"On the occasion of the glorious Easter holiday, I extend to you and your honorable family my warmest congratulations, with best wishes that this holiday brings you good health and contentment, and to the brotherly Lebanese people, goodness and security.

Hassan Khalil:

The President met financial and economic expert, Dr. Hassan Khalil, and deliberated with him the current financial and economic situation.

Statement:

After the meeting, Dr. Khalil made the following statement to the journalists: 

“I have briefed His Excellency the President of the Republic about the depth of the financial, monetary and banking crisis facing Lebanon. 

The issue of depositors in Lebanon is sacred, and the crimes committed against them are equivalent to crimes against humanity. 

Therefore,  For the sake of Lebanon and its citizens, everything that can be done must be done to save what can be saved so that the situation in Lebanon does not reach such dire consequences.

Questions & Answers:

In response to a question about withdrawing his candidacy, Khalil replied: “As for what was rumored about my withdrawal from the electoral battle, I am in the Presidential Palace will not address the issue of the elections, and I note that I did not withdraw but rather suspended the candidacy.

I will mention the details of this comment in a press conference tomorrow in the Press Club at 5:30 pm, because it is not possible to continue to run for parliamentary elections in areas where there is no equal communication with voters, and there is no guarantee for the voter, candidate, or representative of the candidate, nor in terms of media and advertising opportunities, as in other electoral districts”. -- Presidency Press Office
