In the context of the post-electoral period, UNDP, in partnership with the European Union, United States Agency for International Development and German Cooperation, are organizing a conference on “2022 Parliamentary Elections: Key Figures and Lessons Learned” on Tuesday December 6th, 2022, from 10 am to 2:30 pm, at the Kempinski hotel in Beirut.
UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Melanie Hauenstein, the ambassador of the European Union to Lebanon, Mr. Ralf Tarraf, and the ambassador of Germany to Lebanon, Mr. Andreas Kindl will participate in the conference along with members of the parliament, representatives from embassies, civil society organizations, amongst others.
?
During the first session, UNDP will launch two publications: the 1st one on “2022 Parliamentary Elections: Key Results and Figures” which includes the elections’ results disaggregated by sex, age and districts, from a gender perspective and comparative figures of the 2018 and 2022 parliamentary elections. The second publication, “2022 Parliamentary Elections: Milestones and Lessons Learned”, summarizes the discussions that took place in the lessons learned workshops and the recommendations put forward by all participants from relevant NGOs and institutions.
The 2nd session of the conference will comprise a panel of MPs from different parliamentary blocs to discuss the main recommendations and reforms based on the findings of the publications launched.
The conference aims to build a momentum on the needed reforms and to emphasize on the importance of having the electoral legal amendments enacted in advance of elections to provide voters and all participants in the process – including electoral administrative bodies, candidates, political parties and the media – with enough time to be well informed of the electoral rules. These electoral legislations should also be published and timely available to the public.
