Geagea announces LF candidate in Tripoli, says Ministry of Foreign Affairs committing flagrant crime against expatriate voting process

NNA - "Lebanese Forces" party leader, Samir Geagea, on Tuesday confirmed that the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs was committing a flagrant crime against Lebanese expatriates by means of complicating their voting process during the forthcoming parliamentary elections on May 15, 2022.

Geagea’s words came in an address he gave earlier on Thursday in Meerab,  during which he announced the Lebanese Forces’ candidate for the Maronite seat in Tripoli, Elie Khoury.

“In 2018, expatriates voted according to a specific distribution of polling centers, while in 2022, the ministry sabotaged this distribution and relocated polling centers from one state to another instead of adopting the method of previously accustomed to,” Geagea explained.

However, the LF leader went on to point out that the aforementioned measure had been adopted “in some countries only”. “This affects the movement of the voter, as it requires additional hours to reach the target state in which he/she will vote,” Geagea added.

“As for the countries in which Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement have a base of supporters, such as African countries, Germany, and France, Lebanon’s MoFA has re-adopted the 2018 formula, in order to facilitate the voting process,” Geagea added.
