NNA - The Commander of UNIFIL's Western Sector, Brigadier General Nicola Mandolesi, met for the first time with the Mayor of Tura, Mr. Mohamad Haidar. The meeting served as an important opportunity to get acquainted and strengthen the bond between UNIFIL forces and the local municipality. During the discussion, Mayor Haidar expressed the community's solidarity with UNIFIL troops, emphasizing that all residents of Tura returned to their homes after the ceasefire of the last conflict.

Brigadier General Nicola Mandolesi reiterated UNIFIL's full support for the Lebanese population and the constant coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces, essential elements to restore normality in Southern Lebanon. General Mandolesi also highlighted the importance of informing the entire community about UNIFIL's mandate, in full compliance with Resolution 1701.

Following the meeting, General Mandolesi traveled to Tyre Port to attend the inauguration ceremony of two shelters in support of local fishermen.

In his speech, he reaffirmed UNIFIL's commitment to supporting the population, encouraging attendees to spread awareness of UNIFIL's tasks among the youth and to avoid posting videos on social media that could harm the image of Lebanon and UNIFIL. The Brigadier General also reaffirmed his commitment to always strive to do the best for Lebanon, its people, its stability, and its peace highlighted that with this support Sector West is showing that is commitment is a real act and not just a word!

The ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Tyre, Mr. Hassan Dabouk, who, addressing those present, expressed his appreciation for the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, highlighting the heart and dedication with which they operate in the area. He also thanked General Mandolesi for his contribution, expressing hope that this collaboration would continue and strengthen over time, both in challenging moments and in times of stability.

The event concluded with a lunch prepared on-site by the chefs of the Western Sector, who brought a field kitchen for the occasion. All attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a plate of pasta and authentic Italian pizza.
