NNA - Under the patronage and co-organization of Anfeh municipality, "Anfeh Festivals Associations" set up three wind turbines at the entrance of Anfeh village, so as to safeguard the Salt Extraction Heritage of this region.

The turbines had the colours of the sea; white and blue.

Anfeh Festivals Associations' Head, Dr. Emile Najem, put emphasis on making the heritage of this region shine.

"Extracting salt was the source of living to Anfeh locals," he said.

However, Dr. Najem explained that these seawater mills were no longer productive as before because the local markets have become overfilled with Egyptian salt at cheaper prices.

Anfeh Festivals Associations' Head applauded the son of the town "Rameh Nakhoul" for making these windmills in such a short time.

In the midst of reviving Anfeh's heritage, the Festivals Associations of Anfeh and its surrounding is still working on putting back the windmills on the beach, within a project that includes 20 seawater windmills.

The project is being carried out in cooperation with Anfeh locals (expatriates and residents) and Deputy Speaker Farid Makari.

Secretary General of the Heritage organization in Koura District, engineer George Sassine, said that setting up these mills was an integral part of Anfeh's heritage.

He shed light on the environmental aspects of the windmills; "they operate on renewable energy without causing polluting or emissions."

Let's hope all Lebanese regions would work on preserving their heritage and bring back the wonderful Lebanese traditional image.
