Beddawi coastline road safe passage from sniping

Written by Sonia Kafrouni

After the northern entrance to Tripoli in Mallouleh region has been blocked due to turmoil and sniping operations in the city, the new coastline road moving across Beddawi fields, North Tripoli, came somehow to relax passers-by between Akkar and Syria on one hand, and Tripoli and remaining regions on the other.

The new road is part of a fast coastline boulevard that will be constructed in a way to start from near a telephone station in Mina region in Tripoli and link the international autoroute to the new highway crossing over Abu Ali River, Beddawi fields and the international public road. Thereupon, one can avoid passing by the interior of the city if intending to go directly to Akkar and the Lebanese Syrian regions, or even if intending to move from the north towards Beirut and other regions.

The Beddawi coastline road was intensively consumed during security turmoil whereby it witnessed heavy traffic, notably at the railway channel point – the sole passage over Abu Ali River that is safe from the sniping eyeshot. However, despite its quite remote distance from danger, it’s inevitable for some stray bullets to fall on the road from time to time without harming thus far except a man in his foot.

As a solution to the traffic jam in said road, the Lebanese Army set to build a second iron bridge to facilitate the trajectory line of military vehicles and the movement of civil people – something that majorly reduced the traffic intensity during the city’s unrest.

Nevertheless, people moving across the Beddawi road are still suffering from a soil patch on the road that becomes very muddy during rainfall to extend along a 500m distance and meet an asphalt section at the northern side of the highway, leading towards Beddawi.

At the terminal spot of the road’s patch that’s being repaired, people are crossing a narrow road linking the patch to the international autoroute at the Mankoubine crossway, with the road’s narrowness causing heavy traffic.

Lots of people wished via the National News Agency a quick accomplishment of the new road that facilitates the passage course, so as to avert the danger of death at Mallouleh roundabout and the tiresome traffic jam.
