NNA - The Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil expresses its grave concern over the ongoing military escalation in the Middle East and strongly condemns recent attacks carried out by Israel and, more recently, by the United States against nuclear facilities on Iranian territory. These actions constitute a clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international law.
The Brazilian Government reaffirms that any armed attack targeting nuclear facilities is a flagrant breach of the Charter of the United Nations and the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Such acts pose severe risks to civilian populations, including potential radioactive contamination and large-scale environmental disasters.
Brazil reiterates its consistent position in support of the exclusive use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and its firm opposition to nuclear proliferation, particularly in regions affected by geopolitical instability such as the Middle East.
Furthermore, Brazil deplores reciprocal attacks on densely populated areas, which have resulted in an alarming rise in civilian casualties and extensive damage to critical infrastructure, including hospitals—facilities that are specifically protected under international humanitarian law.
The Brazilian Government renews its call for maximum restraint from all parties involved and urges the pursuit of a diplomatic resolution capable of halting the cycle of violence and paving the way for meaningful peace negotiations. The continued escalation threatens not only regional and global stability but also the integrity of the international regime on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
