Wall Street Journal: Washington transfers fighter planes and air drones from the UAE to Qatar

NNA - The Wall Street Journal quoted American officials as saying that their country is transferring fighter planes and air drones to Qatar, after the United Arab Emirates canceled allowing American planes to bomb Yemen and Iraq from their territory.

The newspaper wrote, as reported by “Novosti” News Agency: “Last February, the UAE informed the United States that it would no longer allow American military aircraft and drones stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi to carry out strikes against targets in Yemen and Iraq. This prompted the American leadership to send additional aircraft to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar."

An Emirati official confirmed to the newspaper that the restrictions on combat sorties were adopted based on the principle of “self-protection.”

According to the source, this decision was also made because the United States “was not in a hurry to take measures to protect the UAE” after attacks on its territory from abroad in 2022.

In addition, the newspaper reported, citing an informed source, that the United States and Qatar agreed in recent days to transfer fighter planes, reconnaissance planes, and drones to Al Udeid Air Base.

American sources indicated that the United States is also studying the possibility of striking targets in the Middle East from Djibouti in East Africa.
