NNA - Jordan's King Abdullah II received in Amman today Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, with talks touching on the "implications of dissolving the Knesset on the chances of achieving peace between the Palestinians and Israelis," according to a statement issued by the Royal Court.

King Abdullah told Abbas that "Jordan is in constant contact with the US side, and is working on rendering the Palestinian issue on top the agenda of US President Joe Biden's visit to the region next month."

It is to note that Biden will visit the region in the middle of July, where he will hold a regional summit in Jeddah in the presence of the leaders of Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and the Gulf states.

King Abdullah indicated that "Jordan will support with all its capabilities the rights of the Palestinian brethrens and confirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause, during its participation in the joint summit in Jeddah, which also includes the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United States of America, Egypt and Iraq."

King Abdullah reiterated that "it is not possible to achieve any progress in economic cooperation in the region, without progress in efforts to reach a solution to the Palestinian issue to achieve the interests of the Palestinian people."

King Abdullah and the Palestinian President stressed that "the required step at the present time is to stop the unilateral (Israeli) measures to open the way for the resumption of negotiations in the future.
