NNA – Sweden's ruling Social Democratic Party, today, approved the country's candidacy for NATO membership, which paves the way for the government to submit an application to join in conjunction with Finland, according to AFP.

During an emergency meeting today, the leadership decided that "the party will contribute to Sweden's candidacy for NATO," the Social Democrats said in a statement.
