NNA - The Times Higher Education Subject Rankings 2023 has placed LAU at No.1 in Business and Economics and No.3 in Clinical and Health nationwide, and the only university to rank in Social Sciences in Lebanon.
LAU’s Adnan Kassar School of Business (AKSOB) has maintained its position as a national leader in Business and Economics for the third year running, according to the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Ranking. Its score had also improved by one bracket compared to last year, reaching the top 251-300 rank.

The result is driven by notable improvements on four out of five ranking criteria used by THE: Research, International Outlook, Industry Income and Citations. On the latter, the school scored highest in the Arab World and 42nd globally – up from 76 in 2022 to 91 in 2023 – reflecting the university’s impact and influence in the field on an international scale.

To publish the subject rankings in business and economics, THE includes a range of narrower subject areas: business and management, accounting and finance, and economics and econometrics. This confirms AKSOB’s distinction across its different programs.

Dean Wassim Shahin acknowledged that “this ranking could not have been possible without the efforts of all AKSOB constituents full-time and part-time faculty, staff and students.” Being ranked first in Lebanon for three consecutive years and improving by moving to a higher category in 2023, he continued, “attest to the reliability of the results and the sustainability of the school’s achievements in all of its programs.”

In the same THE report, the university has also ranked third in Lebanon in Clinical and Health, while climbing to the 26th position in the Arab World, and moving into the 501-600 bracket worldwide. It had improved in Research, International Outlook and Citations, which confirms the university’s steadfast pursuit of excellence in the field.

“Despite the economic crisis in the country,” noted Dean of the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine Sola Aoun Bahous, the LAU health schools and academic medical centers were unwavering in keeping with the mission of service, education, and research.” She further recognized the collective efforts of faculty, staff, students, residents and alumni.

LAU has also recorded a first, having made the Social Sciences subject ranking – the only university in Lebanon to be listed this year, and was positioned sixth in the Arab World.

Commenting on this achievement, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences Cathia Jenainati said: “Today marks a milestone for our Social Sciences programs as we achieve our first subject ranking in THE. This is a testament to the high caliber of research that our faculty continues to produce, and is a marker of the international repute and recognition that LAU’s Social Sciences has achieved. We look forward to more success in the future.”
