Inauguration of Palestine Land Studies Center at AUB

NNA - AUB held an official ceremony to inaugurate the Palestine Land Studies Center on Tuesday, January 25 at Bathish Auditorium, West Hall, the University said in a press release on Thursday.

The Palestine Land Studies Center (PLSC) is the permanent home for the extensive archives of Dr. Salman Abu Sitta and the Palestine Land Society in London. It also activates the archives though research and academic practice, making them available for public interaction from within the AUB campus.

The PLSC was established as part of AUB's on-going commitment to the preservation, reclamation, and dissemination of Palestinian history. The center's primary aims include the documentation and preservation of Palestinian history, memory, and socio-spatial practices; the production of research and publications; the organization of innovative teaching curriculums; and the creation of far-reaching networks of scholars, academics, and professionals dedicated to the Palestinian cause.

The inauguration program included a welcome note by Dr. Howayda Al- Harithy, director of the PLSC, opening remarks by Dr. Fadlo Khuri, AUB president, a keynote lecture by Dr. Salman Abu Sitta, founder and president of the Palestine Land Society, and closing remarks by Dr. Imad Baalbalki, vice president for advancement and business development.

Following the speakers, Mahmoud Malhas Common Room at West Hall hosted the “Reclaim, Retell, Return" exhibition, which displayed a sample of the PLSC's archival material.
