Salam discusses with Jordanian counterpart new land import, export procedures in wake of Syrian changes

NNA – Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, made a phone call on Sunday with his Jordanian counterpart, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, to discuss the latest developments in the Syrian situation, especially with regard to the new procedures for import and export movement through land crossings that concern Lebanon and Jordan, since the latter has a land border with Syria that extends over an area of ​​375 kilometers.

The call was also a chance to review issues of common interest aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, investment and economy, given their importance at the level of the sister Arab countries as a whole.

A statement by Salam's media office indicated the Economy Minister expressed deep gratitude to His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Jordanian government and people for all forms of support provided to Lebanon, the Lebanese people, government and army at all levels, and for Jordan’s positions in favor of Lebanon and its rights at various international and regional forums.

The statement also pointed to the talks shared by both Economy Ministers over promoting cooperation relations between the two countries in the field of economic development and opening new horizons for companies and institutions in the Jordanian and Lebanese markets.

“The Jordanian Minister thanked Minister Salam for his uniting Arab economic role, stressing on joint cooperation for the interest of Jordan and Lebanon within the comprehensive Arab embrace, extending an invitation to Minister Salam to visit Jordan and conduct an inspection tour of the Nassib crossing to closely examine the situation of the movement of Lebanese trucks towards Jordan and the Arab countries,” the statement indicated.

"Minister Salam thanked his Jordanian counterpart for this generous invitation which he has duly accepted, expressing his appreciation for the Jordanian efforts made to accelerate trade exchange procedures and overcome any difficulties that may hinder them, and his satisfaction with the measures taken at the borders, highlighting the importance of continuous communication between Amman and Beirut in light of the radical changes in the region. In turn, Minister Salam extended an invitation to his counterpart to visit Lebanon," the statement concluded.
