Public Works Minister meets with World Bank technical team

NNA - Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ali Hamieh, held a meeting with the technical team of the World Bank on preparing the legal status of all the current ports that could be established in the future in Lebanon, as well as preparing the strategic vision for the ports to determine their service identity and the possibility of integration among them to improve service and increase the revenues of the Lebanese treasury.

The minister asked the World Bank to conduct consultations that highlight the geopolitical dimension of the Lebanese ports and their ability to advance and sustain, in light of the political and economic conditions in the region and the possibility of attracting companies and clients to carry out future projects.

In this context, Hamiyeh stressed "the importance of focusing in the study that will be prepared on knowing the role of ports in Lebanon for the next twenty years at the geopolitical level after the political changes that occurred in neighboring countries and proposing a draft of the legal identity as soon as possible, especially after explaining its positive dimensions at the meeting of the joint parliamentary committees."

He also pointed out that "the preliminary study of the legal structure’s identity that has been prepared and discussed today is soon to be finalized, and three meetings will be held weekly to complete it as soon as possible."

It is worth noting that a committee was formed from the Ministry to coordinate and cooperate on a daily basis with the office assigned by the World Bank to prepare the legal structure within a short period.
