Calm voting process continues across southern Lebanon despite minor incidents

NNA - The municipal and mukhtar elections are ongoing across the South and Nabatieh governorates in a generally calm atmosphere, despite a few administrative complaints and minor disputes among candidates and supporters. The Ministry of Interior has addressed most of these issues.

In Sidon, voting continues steadily, with turnout expected to rise before polls close at 7:00 pm. However, incidents were reported, including a scuffle outside the Maarouf Saad Cultural Center, quickly contained by security forces. Disabled voters expressed frustration over inaccessible polling stations, such as in the Marjan Center, where ballots were located on upper floors.

Crowds were also noted in high-density voting areas, with security forces managing order. Another altercation near the Evangelical-American School was defused by the Lebanese Army.

Reports highlighted high afternoon turnout in major centers like Sidon Technical School and Aisha School. In Tyre, 22 villages are voting, and turnout has been strong in border areas. Minor incidents were reported in villages like Shamaa and Ramadiyeh.

In Zahrani, turnout exceeded 30% in towns like Maghdouche and Marwaniyeh. Jezzine witnessed peaceful, active participation, with voter turnout surpassing 50% in some villages.

In Nabatieh, the vote is competitive and calm. Finance Minister Yassine Jaber praised the process and emphasized the need for national reconstruction.
