Berri meets IMF Executive Director, broaches latest developments with Ferzli

NNA - House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Friday welcomed at the second presidency in Ain El-Tineh, the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, Mahmoud Mohieldin, in the presence of the advisor in the Office of the IMF Executive Director, Maya Choueiri. 

The general situation in Lebanon and the region was presented.

Discussions also focused on the path of the agreement between Lebanon and the IMF.

Dr. Mohieldin denied all rumors about invalidating the initial agreement between Lebanon and the IMF, stressing “its constancy, continuity, and development in line with Lebanese necessities.”

Discussions also touched on the issue of deposits, whereby Speaker Berri reaffirmed, “the necessity of preserving the full rights of depositors, as this is important for restoring confidence in Lebanon and its banking sector and the confidence of the Lebanese, residents and expatriates, in their homeland, Lebanon.”

The research also addressed the displaced Syrians’ issue, the UNRWA funding crisis, and the extent of the burdens and losses incurred by Lebanon, in general, and the financial and economic situation, in particular, as a result of this.

On the other hand, Speaker Berri received in Ain El-Tineh, former Vice Speaker, Elie Ferzli, with whom he broached the current general situation and the latest political and field developments.
