NNA - Caretaker Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin congratulated activist Joyce Azzam on her appointment as the first national goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Women in Lebanon, referring to her as "one of the world's elite mountaineers."

Yassin considered this appointment as "a message with several dimensions...First, about the importance of the leadership role of Lebanese women and the inspiration that Joyce will give to achieve equality in all sectors. Second, about the 'soft power' of Lebanon, which in the midst of crises is still present in the fields of culture, art, sports and higher education, which of course must be developed and supported. Third, in showing the natural capital of Lebanon, starting from its reserves and natural sites, which we are working to protect, develop and render as the focal point of sustainable local development."

"We will work with Joyce and the United Nations to highlight the beautiful facets of Lebanon," the Environment Minister affirmed.

He also published a photo with the goodwill ambassador in one of the tourism and environmental projects in Bkerzai - Chouf district, and in Baakline's forest, where environmental guides preserve biodiversity and beautiful paths between oak and arbutus trees.
