Abiad chairs meeting over health sector’s readiness to face disasters, earthquakes

NNA - Caretaker Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Al-Abiad, on Tuesday held a meeting to coordinate the health sector's response to seismic disasters and crises.

The meeting included heads of the concerned departments at the Ministry of Health, the Syndicate of Private Hospitals, the Syndicate of Nurses, the Lebanese Red Cross, representatives of international organizations concerned with the health sector, representative of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The meeting aimed to review the status of Lebanon’s health sector, and its readiness to respond to disasters and earthquakes, and to coordinate and unify the efforts made by all concerned partners with the aim of preparing an emergency plan and ensuring a quick and effective response. 

A weekly meeting will be held to follow up on this matter, according to the Minister of Health’s press office.
