Geagea says “no veto” on Army Commander’s presidential candidacy

NNA - In an interview with the Saudi daily "Okaz", Lebanese Forces Party (LF) leader, Samir Geagea, said that his party did not oppose the candidacy of Lebanese Army Commander, Joseph Aoun, for the Lebanese Presidency.

"The LF certainly prefers that the military body stays away from the political scene, but it does not oppose it,” Geagea added.

In this context, the LF Chief accused Hezbollah and its allies of hindering the election of a new President of the Republic, at a time when Lebanon absolutely needed one.

Moreover, Geagea affirmed that his relationship with Marada party leader, Sleiman Frangieh, was "good, although strategically, the latter leans towards the obstructionist axis — moumanaa [in reference to Hezbollah]."

“Saudi Arabia plays a major strategic role in Lebanon," Geagea added, clarifying that it is not in the details that the Kingdom seeks to intervene.

"The KSA has openly declared that if a new head of state, who does not inspire confidence, came to power, it would no longer contribute to provide aid to Lebanon,” Geagea added.
