Mikati meets US Congress delegation, tackles local affairs with ministers

NNA - Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met on Monday at the Grand Serail with a US Congress delegation headed by Representative Mark Takato, and the membership of Representatives Colin Allred and Katie Porter, in the presence of US Ambassador Dorothy Shea.

The delegation congratulated the Lebanese state on the success of the demarcation of the southern maritime boundary, as well as on its efforts to finalize the laws required by the International Monetary Fund and which have been referred to the parliament.

The delegation also stressed the necessity of electing a president of the republic, urging the MPs to complete this task as soon as possible.

According to the delegation, the world is ahead of major challenges in 2023, including those related to food security and the US aid to the friendly states. Therefore, the delegation urged the Lebanese politicians and lawmakers to multiply their efforts to put Lebanon on the track of recovery. They also highlighted the importance of fighting corruption.

Mikati later met with German Ambassador to Lebanon, Andreas Kindl, accompanied by Wolfgang Aigner, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Coordinator for the Container Control Programme (CCP) in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Separately, Mikati held talks with Caretaker Foreign Minister, Abdallah Bou Habib, over the outcome of his participation in a conference held recently in Spain.
