Falha at Arab States Broadcasting Union’s meeting in Tunisia: To build bridges of cultural, intellectual, social, media, and economic openness

NNA - The Arab States Broadcasting Union’s Executive Council’s meetings were held in the Tunisian capital on Tuesday. Attendees discussed the best means to strengthen joint Arab work in the fields of audio-visual and electronic media, in the presence of a delegation representing Lebanon’s Ministry of Information headed by MoI General Director, Dr. Hassan Falha, and Radio Lebanon Director, Mohammad Gharib.

Dr. Falha said in an intervention, "This conference is a return to oneself, in a good meeting, with the purest of intentions; it’s a cooperation and a synergy to build bridges of cultural, intellectual, social, media, and economic openness."

Falha also pointed out that today’s media was racing with time. “The media has become an independent authority that revolves in the orbit of technology. It is no longer, and shall not remain in the hands of the authority, through which ready-made policies are promoted,” Falha added.

“What is required of the Arab media outlets today is openness, development, and keeping pace with our times, which are witness to lively cultures that only enrich our heritage and knowledge,” Falha maintained, calling for “highly effective communication links within Arab societies themselves and with other societies."

On the sidelines of the meeting, Falha and Gharib met with a number of officials, with whom they discussed the media situation in Arab countries and the prospects for cooperation in this field, especially the possibility of producing joint programs between Radio Lebanon and other Arab radio stations.
