FPM dissatisfied with continued disruption of Council of Ministers meetings

NNA – In an issued statement following its periodic meeting today, headed by its Chief MP Gebran Bassil, the Free Patriotic Movement’s political council expressed dissatisfaction towards the continued suspension of cabinet meetings without any justification, stressing that the government is not responsible and has no authority to resolve the existing judicial dispute.

The statement added that “finding a solution to this issue is within the jurisdiction of the judiciary or the parliament, which can follow the necessary procedures in this respect.”

“The Movement calls on the prime minister to practice his constitutional duty by inviting the Council of Ministers to convene and discuss the issues and dossiers it is supposed to decide upon, especially those related to people's affairs and daily living pressures, in addition to the required reform files, most prominently being the financial recovery plan,” the statement underlined.

Referring to the upcoming parliamentary elections, the Council considered that they will be “a referendum for the Lebanese over their system after all the financial, economic, administrative and political collapses that have occurred,”, and therefore, called for “opening the door for discussion on what has been implemented and what has not of the National Accord Document, at the forefront of which is the adoption of expanded administrative and financial decentralization that has become necessary to reform the system, for people to participate in managing their affairs through elected bodies with powers that achieve balanced development for the regions, according to what was stated in the National Accord document and the Constitution.”
