NNA - Japan will extend a grant to the National Rehabilitation and Development Center (NRDC) in Simkaniyyeh/Chouf, for the provision of prosthetics manufacturing equipment, through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Program (GGP). On December 2, 2022, Mihara Kiyoshi, Chargé d'affaires signed a grant contract with Dr. Weam Abou Hamdan, General Director of NRDC.

In Lebanon, it is estimated that 20,000 people suffer from amputations and need artificial limbs. Although there are several institutions that manufacture prostheses and offer maintenance services in Lebanon, the lack of such institutions in Chouf is obliging citizens to resort to facilities outside the region, further burdening the patients and their families. To address this situation, Japan has decided to support NRDC, which offers rehabilitation services for people with disabilities, mine victims and survivors of war, through the provision of prosthetics manufacturing equipment. This initiative will enable hundreds of vulnerable community members to have access to prosthetic limbs, medical follow-ups and maintenance services at affordable costs.

At the signing ceremony, Mihara congratulated NRDC and commended their efforts to contribute to vulnerable communities in the region. From their side, NRDC thanked Japan for its generous support and highlighted the urgent needs and importance of this project.
