Telecoms Minister: Cellular network service has improved with 95% coverage across Lebanon

NNA - In an interview with the "Voice of Lebanon" radio station, Caretaker Telecoms Minister, Eng. Johnny Al-Corm, affirmed on Tuesday that the cellular network service has improved in Lebanon.

"We have reached 95% coverage across Lebanese territories,” he added.

However, Corm indicated that Ogero endured a difficult situation, especially at the absence of current possibilities to carry out maintenance and investment operations.

He further noted that "the promotions that took place were based on joint proposals with the management of the cell phone company, and based on the required need."

As for the broadcast of the World Cup matches, the Telecoms Minister said: “The decision to broadcast the World Cup requires the approval of the Council of Ministers, but in light of the current situation, I’ve requested that there be a written approval from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance, the Audit Bureau, and the Public Procurement Authority, which did not happen; consequently, I am not ready to violate the law.”

With regard to the "Liban Post", Corm said: "Renewing the contract with the company 8 times in a row is unfair to the state because it’s profiting 5% of the internal mail revenue only."

He finally pointed out that an auction has been launched for the postal sector with new conditions that require the state to obtain 10% of all the company's revenues, adding that the results of the auction will come out late January.
