(corrected) Mikati: Committed to holding elections on time

NNA - Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Tuesday said that the government was compelled to hold the legislative elections on June 9, according to the law in force, in case the Parliament did not pass a new law.

In his chat with the press at the Grand Serail, Mikati said the Cabinet session tomorrow shall take up the issue of the Supervisory Commission for the Elections.

He said that members of the commission were not named yet and explained that this would be left to be discussed later on, within the deadline.

The Lebanese Premier said that the decision to postpone elections was to be made by the Parliament, noting that the Cabinet would not send any project in that regard.

At another level, Mikati met with Head of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, Andre Flahaut, accompanied with the Lebanese-Belgian friendship committee member, MP Yassine Jaber, and the Belgian Ambassador to Lebanon, Colette Taquet.
Talks touched on the countries' bilateral ties.

Also, Mikati convened with a delegation of the European Parliament Committee of the Levant countries in presence of EU's Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, over the situation in Lebanon and the Syrian crisis' repercussions.

The Lebanese Premier met afterwards with Minister of State for Administrative Reform, Mohamad Fneich, with whom he took up administrative appointments' issue and the salaries' scale dossier.

Mikati also received State Minister Marwan Kheir Eddine.
