Fatfat: Future bloc presents small districts bill

NNA - "Future" bloc member Deputy Ahmad Fatfat said in a news conference held at the House of Representatives today, that "Future" bloc presented a bill for elections based on small districts and a proposal to amend Article 22 of the Constitution.

The MP pointed to the division of electoral districts for better Christian representation without affecting co-existence, referring to 26 electoral districts.

"We considered that the province is the maximum that can be accepted and any province that has more than five deputies can be divided into more than one district," Fatfat said.

He stressed that this proposal is a complete proposal to reform the political structure in the country, and the members of his bloc would distribute it on the Sub-committee today.

"This proposed bill for discussion is not final," he asserted.

In response to a question, he said that his bloc did not say it would not participate in the joint committees, but it said it would take part in the absence of the Cabinet.

"We communicated with all parties concerning the initiative, but we each party should express its opinion," he added.

Fatfat said that the Interior Ministry expressed its willingness to apply the majority law and the postponement would be linked to new proposed mechanisms in proportionality and Orthodox laws and not of what "Future" bloc has proposed.

"We did not divide the districts that have less than 5 MPs and divided exclusively districts with more than 5 MPs, and the division which we have presented is not final and we are open to discussion according to the following rules: to have maximum one province and the district should not exceed 5 seats," Fatfat concluded.
