Sleiman participates in Kuwait donors' conference, echoes Lebanon's need for support

NNA - President of the Republic, Michel Sleiman, winded up on Wednesday a visit to Kuwait, where he had taken part in the donors' conference in support of displaced Syrians fleeing their country's unrest in different Arab regions.



The President delivered a word in which he underlined the importance of supporting Lebanon to help provide Syrian refugees -- currently present on its territories -- with all their daily living necessities.



Lebanon needs approximately 380 million USD in financial support, not to mention the extra space needed to contain the growing influx of Syrians by the day, Sleiman told the participants of the conference.



The President also took part in the conference's final session, during which United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had delivered a word expressing his content with the conference's upshot.



"The United Nations has achieved the goal it had set in support of Syrian refugees," Ban said, voicing full satisfaction with the donations campaign.



"This is one of the most successful [donation campaigns] at the humanitarian level," said Ban.



Sleiman met at the sidelines of the meeting with his Tunisian counterpart, Moncef al-Marzouki.



Both men dwelt on recent developments at the regional level, as well as on the sufferings of displaced Syrians. Means of boosting-up bilateral relations also featured high on Sleiman's talks with his counterpart.



Sleiman also held Syria-related talks with British Secretary of State for International Development of the United Kingdom, Justine Greening.



The President briefed Greening on the condition of the displaced Syrians on Lebanese territories. He also updated the British diplomat on Lebanon's measures and plans to aptly handle the increasing number of Syrians in Lebanon.



U.S. Assistant Secretary, Anne C. Richard, also held similar talks with the President. She heaped praise on President Sleiman's way of handling this "humanitarian emergency", relying the U.S. continued support to humanitarian organizations in Lebanon.
